Cherokee Man Faces Felony Charge After Threatening Group With Knife While Intoxicated

The Storm Lake Police Department reports a Cherokee man was taken into custody last week after allegedly attempting to start a fight while intoxicated and wielding a knife. At approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Milwaukee Avenue on a report of several people having been threatened by an individual. Upon arrival, law enforcement spoke with the victims and learned the man, identified as 39-year-old Sefton Royd Akin, had exited an apartment and appeared to be intoxicated. He allegedly became aggressive towards the group, who avoided the conflict by retreating into a nearby residence and vehicle. Authorities later located Akin in a separate apartment and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Buena Vista County jail, where he was charged with going armed with intent, a class D felony, and disorderly conduct, public intoxication and two counts of third-degree harassment, simple misdemeanors. Akin remains in custody on a $6,200 bond.
