Manning is the recipient of the 2020 Healthy Hometown Powered by Wellmark’s Community Award. The presentation was made at an Iowa Healthiest State Initiative ceremony late last week and recognized Manning for their accomplishments in health improvement initiatives. Iowa Healthiest State Initiative Executive Director, Jami Haberl, says they were pleased to present this award. “The city has earned the title of 2020 Healthy Manning and will also receive $5,000 to continue the important work of improving the physical, social and emotional well-being of the community.” Some of the most noteworthy achievements include a trail under Highway 141, incorporation of seven water bottle filling stations throughout the community and the installation of a rapid-flashing pedestrian crossing light at Highway 141 and Center Street. “Manning has many partners that help move forward tactics to be a Healthy Hometown,” says City Clerk/Administrator, Dawn Meyer. “It has been a team effort and it’s fun to see how much can get done when everyone is working towards the same objective. It is an honor to even be named as a finalist. And to win—especially as such a small community—is a huge honor.”
