Authorities have identified a Jan. 31 juvenile shooting victim as 16-year-old Joseph Hopkins of Mapleton. An autopsy performed by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that a single gunshot wound was the cause of death. Emergency personnel were called to the scene in Mapleton at approximately 9:40 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Hopkins deceased. Witnesses, all minors, were also present. Authorities continue to say there is no threat to the public and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
