As Executive Director of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce and Carroll Area Development Corporation (CADC), Shannon Landauer, said at last month’s annual banquet, 2019 could be summed up in one word, weather. Program Director at the chamber, Ashley Schable, says last year started with a first for their organization because of that one word.
Schable says they are now in their 14th year of running what is recognized as a quality tournament.
There are, however, spots still open in the Saturday, Feb. 22 and Sunday, Feb. 23 competition for some teams to join in the fun at basketball courts throughout the city of Carroll.
After 14 years, Schable says the many volunteers and organizations involved are able to run a smooth tournament, making it seem almost effortless even though there is a tremendous amount of work involved on their part to pull this off. She adds, this also helps make Hoop It Up a big draw for spectators as well as players.
Schable says they can always use volunteers and will work to accommodate time slots that fit into people’s busy schedules. Anyone interested in signing up a team or learning more about how they can help out that weekend can contact Schable at the chamber at 792-4383 or by emailing a.schable@carrolliowa.com.
