For the second year in a row, a longstanding Carroll County law firm was named the recipient of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce Heritage Award. The award was created to honor and recognize locally owned and operated businesses that have played an integral role in making Carroll the community that it is today. The most recent winners include Neu, Minnich, Comito, Halbur, Neu and Badding, P.C., Roman Steffes and Sons Construction, and Commercial Savings Bank. John Perrin with Farner-Bocken Company presented the 2019 Heritage Award at Monday’s banquet. He says businesses like this year’s winner are the foundation on which successful communities are built.

This law firm opened its doors in 1936 when two friends and classmates at the University of Iowa College of Law, Robert Bruner and Edward White, chose Carroll as the place they would put down roots. The practice flourished and grew to include Bruner’s two sons. In 2008, the law firm merged with a Guthrie Center practice created in 1907 and now has ties to communities throughout the region.

Partners now include Barry and David Bruner, Eric Reinhart and Jessica Morton. This group’s contributions extend beyond exemplary legal services. They have worked extensively with the Chamber of Commerce, Carroll Athletic Association, regional economic development groups and much more to be a part of the towns they serve. Barry Bruner says community involvement has been a key tenet of the firm since its founding and continues to this day for the partners. He then spoke about the day White and his father decided where they wanted to practice.
