Suspect Identified In Carroll Middle School Vandalism

Police Chief, Brad Burke, says a male Carroll student will likely be charged in relation to vandalism at the middle school building on Sunday night. The department was notified by a vendor at approximately 2:55 a.m. Monday that there was damage done to the card reader at an entrance to the structure in the 3200 block of N. Grant Road.

Although one surveillance camera was damaged, Burke says there were several others outside the building. This led them to the middle-school-age suspect.

The suspect has been interviewed, but Burke says they are not able to go into detail on that aspect of the investigation. However, authorities have speculated on a possible reason for the criminal mischief.

Burke says there is not a final estimation in actual damages yet, but it sounds like it will be over $2,100, which would make this a second-degree criminal mischief charge, a class D felony. The case will be handled through the juvenile courts. The school was able to work around the damage and gain access through another door and classes were held as usual. Burke adds that no other buildings in the school system were tampered with and there was no threat to students, staff or instructors.
