Senator Grassley Discusses USMCA As It Passes Out Of Committee And On To The Senate

On Tuesday, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) passed out of the Senate Finance Committee, led by Republican Senator, Chuck Grassley, on a 25 to three vote. The USMCA will update the North American Free Trade Agreement, and Grassley says this is a positive step forward for the country’s economy.

There are other, more broad sweeping impacts according to Grassley.

Dealing with weather challenges and trade restrictions in 2019 made for an economically difficult year for many farmers. Grassley says the swift passage of the USMCA will be of benefit, particularly in some specific areas.

The agreement passed through the House of Representatives on Dec. 19 with a 385 to 41 vote and is now headed to the Senate. Grassley says he hopes this will be voted on prior to the pending impeachment as it will take precedence over everything else, and he is hoping the agreement will be ratified early this year.
