The Carroll County Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Office is inviting individuals who provide unpaid caregiving for adults to register for a five-week workshop to learn how to make caring for a loved one less costly. Data collected in 2015 suggests most Iowa caregivers spend between 24 and 40 hours per week helping with household chores, managing finances and overseeing medical tasks, spending nearly $5,500 annual out of their own pockets. “Finances of Caregiving”, which will be held on Tuesdays from Jan. 7 to Feb. 4 at the ISU Extension Office in Carroll, brings national resources, community resources and more to Iowans to help them protect their finances. Each 90-minute seminar focuses on different aspects of caregiving: understanding your starting point, the importance of planning, preparing for the future, paying for care and effective communication. The cost to participate in the program is $15, including workshop resources. Registration for the Finances of Caregiving closes Friday, Jan. 3.
