One person was airlifted following a four-vehicle accident Monday south of Harlan. The Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene on Highway 59 near River Avenue at approximately 2:48 p.m. The initial investigation has revealed that three vehicles were stopped at a construction light, waiting for the right of way, when a fourth vehicle, a semi-tractor trailer driven by Russwin Helsley of Plattsmouth Neb., struck the third vehicle in the line, pushing it into the second and first. The driver in the third vehicle, 49-year-old Bryan Law of Des Moines, was airlifted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Fifty-eight-year-old Christine Feldman of Harlan and 52-year-old Darrell Case of Tabor were the other two drivers involved but there was no report of either suffering any injuries during the incident. The Harlan and Avoca Fire Departments also responded to the scene.
