The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reporting that this past fall has been wetter and cooler than normal. In the latest Water Summary Update, they report temperatures for September, October and November averaged 49.3 degrees, .9 of a degree below normal. Precipitation totaled 12.33 inches, which is 4.3 inches above normal. “Despite November being drier than normal, the last 18 months in Iowa have been the wettest on record,” says Tim Hall, the DNR’s coordinator of hydrology resources. Streamflow continued to be above normal for the majority of the state, while drought conditions are nonexistent.
