Two Crime Prevention Month Events Bring Big Benefits To Local Residents

October is National Crime Prevention Month and local law enforcement has elected to engage in efforts to give back to their communities during this timeframe. Capt. Ethan Kathol, with the Carroll Police Department, says an important part of crime prevention is a strong relationship with community members.

The cruiser, Unit 17, is a Ford Explorer, so this was a big haul for the department. The toys have been delivered to New Opportunities and will be distributed to children in need this holiday season. Doug and Tina Gifford with State Farm in Carroll had heard about the National Coffee with a Cop Day on Oct. 2, and decided to host their own for a charitable cause in Carroll. Local law enforcement officers were invited to meet with the public over a good cup of coffee at Queen Beans from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday. According to Doug Gifford, the results were phenomenal.

The Giffords donated $1 for every cup of coffee purchased during the event to go to the non-profit Kellan’s Kingdom. The final tally came in at an impressive 68 coffees purchased and an additional $202 in donations at the counter. But the Giffords aren’t stopping there, they are rounding this number up to a $500 donation to Kellan’s Kingdom. Detective Alex Klever with the Carroll Police Department was one of the officers on hand Tuesday morning. He says it was important for him to be there, not only to meet, talk with and get to know the residents on a more personal level, but because this is a truly good cause.

Klever says he has been very impressed with what Pat and Alie Tigges have been able to organize and bring to reality, and he and his two children, six and four years old, have really enjoyed playing on the new equipment installed at Northeast Park.
