A Manilla woman faces a felony charge in District Court for Carroll County for alleged check forgery. On Tuesday, 38-year-old Crystal Fayth Marie Bates was issued a summons to appear at the courthouse for the class D felony. The charge stems from an investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, which found Bates passed checks on Sept. 10 and 11 at the Waspy’s Truck Stop in Templeton. The account holder denied ever granting her permission to use the checks and told law enforcement they did not know each other. Bates made her initial appearance Thursday morning. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 17. If found guilty, she could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison and up to $7,500 in fines.
