Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) has released the county-by-county unemployment rates for August 2019. Carroll County led the area with 1.8 percent unemployment, followed closely by Sac County at 1.9 percent and Calhoun County at 2.1 percent. Audubon, Greene and Guthrie Counties’ unemployment remained below the state and national rates at 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 percent, respectively. Crawford saw the highest rate for the seven-county region last month with 3.0 percent unemployment. Calhoun County had the most improvement when compared to August 2018, dropping their unemployment by 0.4 percent. Guthrie County had the largest increase for the same time period, up 0.4 percent. Iowa’s unemployment is tied for third lowest in the country at 2.5 percent. National unemployment remained unchanged at 3.7 percent.
