The next regularly-scheduled meeting for the Carroll City Council will be Monday, Sept. 23, and members will revisit an ordinance to amend parking on Main Street. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says this will be the third and final reading and potential adoption and would remove the four parking spaces on the east side of Main, in front of the parking lot for the Carroll County Courthouse. Earlier this year, a traffic study was commissioned by the city. Bolton & Menck recommended the removal of those spaces for safety reasons. At a recent council meeting, former Chief of Police, Jeff Cayler, spoke out, saying vehicles in those spots have created issues for years and asked that the council remove them, regardless of the plans for the new county jail. If the ordinance is adopted, Pogge-Weaver says it could go into effect within the next several weeks. A public hearing will then be held on a project that has been on the city’s radar for well over a year; the stabilization of the Middle Raccoon River streambed.
The discussion will also encompass an award from the Hungry Canyons Alliance Stream Stabilization Cost Share program, which has provided $80,000 toward the more than $400,000 estimated for the project. The meeting will convene at 5:15 p.m. in the council chambers at the new City Hall building on North Adams Street. The Public is encouraged to attend.
