Kuemper’s head men’s tennis coach and long-time supporter was surprised in early August as family, friends, peers and students gathered to announce he would be receiving the Good Shepherd award from the Sioux City Diocese. This weekend, Matt Greteman will be presented his award during a special ceremony at the annual Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Schools on Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Delta Hotels Center in South Sioux City, Neb. The Good Shepherd award is presented to individuals who are in non-teaching positions within the school and they are nominated by their peers. Recipients must meet specific qualifications, such as going above the call of duty and demonstrating a true passion for their jobs. Greteman more than fits this bill. He has served on the Monsignor Lafferty Tuition Foundation, has been a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, sat on the City of Carroll Parks and Rec and Cultural board, volunteered with the United Way of Carroll, served on the Carroll Communications Utility Board, the Catholic Schools Foundation, Kuemper Building and Grounds Committee, New Hope Village and the Carroll Area Development Corporation (CADC). He also played a critical role in the construction of Kuemper’s new fieldhouse and an addition and renovation at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. One of his nominees wrote, “Matt’s dedication to Kuemper is truly inspiring. His visible actions as well as those that may go unnoticed. He truly exemplifies C.S. Lewis’ famous quote, ‘Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.’” Greteman says the most important thing you can do is, “Use the gifts that God has given you to do the things that are in your heart.”
