School is back in session and the summer reading program at the Carroll Public Library has come to a close. Library Director, Rachel Van Erdewyk says they are very pleased with some of the numbers reflected from May 28 through Aug. 10.
The Rookies, birth to 5 years old, had a goal of six visits and to read five books. Van Erdwyk says a lot of them exceeded that and a couple others excelled in an additional challenge.
Champions are kindergarten through 4th graders and there were 484 participants who read a total of 8,195 books. All Stars had 170 total members in grades five through eight tracking during the 11 weeks and read a total of 207,500 pages.
And in the final group, high school students and adults, there were 273 that signed up with a total of 528,000 pages read. The top reader in that group read 28,000 pages. Van Erdwyk broke down some other stats for the summer.
She says the best year they have had was in 2017 with about 1,600 people participating.
