Former Maryland congressman and Democratic presidential candidate, John Delaney, stopped in Carroll Tuesday morning to speak with potential voters as part of his 34th visit to Iowa since launching his campaign in 2017. Delaney spoke to a group of about 20 people at Queen Beans Coffeehouse and touched on multiple issues during the hour he was there. He says Americans are not only suffering from unprecedented divisiveness in politics, but also from “terrible inaction” by our leaders in Washington, D.C.

He adds all these things have changed, but our laws and policies have not, which has caused many people to feel left behind. According to Delaney, Trump is not the cause of the political divisiveness, but rather a symptom of it. He says what Americans are looking for is a leader with achievable solutions to real problems, and that is what he will provide if elected.

Delaney used healthcare to illustrate his point. According to him, there are currently three lines of thought in the Democratic Party: fixing the Affordable Care Act (ACA), creating a public option or establishing Medicare for All.

Instead, Delaney is proposing a system he says can actually work, which sets him apart from the other candidates.

Delaney also discussed solutions to climate change, the future of unions and more during his hour-long visit. Full audio from his stop can be found included with this story on our website.
