The Lake View City Council has approved the final reading of an ordinance change that will expand the area where golf carts are permitted to travel in the community. According to Administrator, Scott Peterson, they received multiple requests from residents to allow carts to make a full lap around Black Hawk Lake. He says the city council needed to answer a few questions before they were able to make any progress on those requests.
The change is effective immediately, but Peterson cautions residents to take a moment to ensure everything is in order before heading out to the lake. Golf carts have been legal in Lake View for years, and many vehicles are already outfitted with the necessary safety equipment. However, Peterson says the council has added several new requirements.
Peterson adds owners will need to speak with their insurance agent to certify they have the proper coverage. Once that is acquired, golf carts must be inspected and registered at the Lake View Police Department for a $2 annual permit fee. While golf carts are now allowed around the entire lake, Peterson says there are still places in Lake View where they are prohibited from traveling.
Peterson encourages everyone to use caution when using golf carts for transport. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact Lake View City Hall at 712-657-2634.
