Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach is hosting a meeting next month to help farmers negotiate fair cash rental rates for next year. The farmland leasing meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15, beginning at 6 p.m. at their offices in Carroll. The approximately 2.5 hour seminar will be facilitated by Tim Christensen, a farm and agriculture business management specialist, and will focus primarily on methods to determine the going market rate for land and the importance of good communication between tenants and landlords. Emphasis will also be placed on recent returns to Iowa Cash Rented Land and the 2019 Iowa Cash Rental Rate Survey. Interested participants are asked to register at least two days prior to the meeting. The cost to attend is $20 per person or $30 per couple and includes a 100-page booklet and meeting handouts to assist landowners, tenants and other agri-business professionals with issues related to farmland ownership, management and leasing arrangements. For more information or to register, contact the Carroll County Extension office at 712-792-2364 by Tuesday, Aug. 13.
