Dorothy Stotts of Lake City

Lake City – Dorothy Stotts, 105, died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Shady Oaks Care
Center in Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 13,
2019 at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with visitation one hour prior to the
service at Lampe Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Dorothy is survived by her son Michael (Linda) Stotts of Lake City; grandchildren
Jennifer Holloway (Derek Manchester) and her children Amanda, Amber and
Allison of Waukee and Jason (Jecque) Stotts and their children Jack and Dane of
Urbandale. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Merle in 1968, sons
Steven and David, and sisters Hazel and her husband Ernie Malohn and Ruth and
her husband Oliver Fagan.
Dorothy Katherine (Mapel) Stotts was born on April 14, 1914 at home in Lake
Creek Township to Thomas and Eva (Gregg) Mapel. She graduated from Rockwell
City High School in 1932, and on August 30, 1939, Dorothy married Merle Stotts at
St. Francis Rectory in Rockwell City. Throughout the years she worked as a
country school teacher, grocery store clerk and as a farmwife. Dorothy was an avid
painter: oil, china, and porcelain dolls being among her favorites to work with, and
she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as they were growing
up. She was a member of JAF, Carroll China Painters, Fort Dodge China Painters,
Monday Club, card clubs, and Ruth Circle at the Lake City Union Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for the Lake City Union Church.
