Three gifts to a Carroll project totaling $25,000 were received within days of each other, bringing the grand sum collected to over $100,000, even before fundraising efforts have actually begun. Pat Tigges and his wife, Alie, are right now realizing their idea of an all-inclusive playground as construction of Kellan’s Kingdom in Northeast Park is underway. The playground, named after their son who was born with a condition similar to cerebral palsy, was the impetus for another great idea a Miracle League Field near it. Pat says they are thrilled to have so much support for this new project already.
Tigges says the ball field itself costs about $160,000, but the rest of the necessary features for accessibility and usability could bring the total up to $400,000 to $500,000.
This, he says, is key to making sure these kids are playing on a real ballfield and not just a poured rubber surface. The identified goal is to get Kellan’s Kingdom done, and then be able to show people where their generous donations have gone before they start asking for more money. He adds, the great thing about these recent donations is that they open doors to more money for the Miracle Field.
Concrete work is underway at Northeast Park in Carroll to erect the playground equipment for Kellan’s Kingdom. There is a plan to have another cookout to bring people out to see the park and to get a visual of where the Miracle Field will be and what that surface will look and feel like. This will be the only Miracle League Field in about a 100 mile radius of Carroll. Tigges adds that another upcoming fundraiser will be the creation of a Wall of Fame for the field that will showcase different levels of support. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more about fundraisers and the grand opening party for Kellan’s Kingdom in future broadcasts.
