Lorna Ford, age 91 of Lake View, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA. Lorna Mae Ford was born on December 7, 1927, in Schaller, IA, to George and Mildred (Haradon) Miller. She grew up south of Early where she attended Country School #6 until the eighth grade and graduated from Early High school in 1945. She continued her education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, IA.
On March 1, 1946, Lorna was united in marriage to Vurl Ellis. This union was blessed with five daughters: Marilyn, Barbara, Marcene, Julie and Doris. Later in life on January 17, 1992, Lorna married Walter Ford. Lorna worked as a Certified Nurses Aid for 50 years. She was a born caretaker and took pride in helping others. You could find her in her garden and even kept a garden alive in Arizona. She enjoyed canning, making jelly and keeping a close watch on her hummingbird feeders. Lorna liked to go fishing, crochet, knit and cook. She made the best rhubarb dishes and was famous for her potato salad.
Lorna always kept busy. She was a great pen pal and loved keeping in touch with family and friends. She was always there for everyone and coloring with her grandchildren always brightened her day. Lorna was a strong, loving, caring and devoted person and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Barb (Rick) Ross of Mesa, AZ, Marcene (Donnavon) Cates of Lake City, IA, Julie Blakesslee of Apache Junction, AZ, Doris Masters of San Tan Valley, AZ; grandchildren: Stephanie Riedell, Diana Schulte, Samantha Welch, Tammy Treat, Melanie Denney, Jennifer Dentlinger, Eric Blakesslee, Anne Pylican, Ryan Blakesslee, Jessie Scudder, Brooke Scudder, Ericka Cade and Bobby Ross; 21 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; step brother Ed (Elaine) Mott of Wall Lake, IA; step sister Elsie Haradon; many extended family members and friends.
Lorna was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; sisters: Phyllis Richie, Shirley Ellis and Verlee Hoffard; brother Wendel Miller; daughter Marilyn Ostercamp and granddaughter Andrea Blakesslee.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Early Union Cemetery in Early, IA. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City is in charge of arrangments.
