Wet Weather Delays Playground Equipment Installation At Lake City’s Lincoln And Goins Parks

Children in Lake City, who were looking forward to playing on the new playground equipment in Goins and Lincoln Parks, will now have to wait an additional month before trying out the new swings and climbing structures. According to City Administrator, Eric Wood, the parts were delivered about a month ago, but the high volume of rainfall over the last few weeks has made the ground too soft for any work to be completed.

More than just equipment is being updated. Wood says they are also going to switch to a playground surfacing which is significantly softer for the children playing at the parks.

With a little over a month left until the new structures are installed, Wood is optimistic they will find an acceptable bid for the rubber pellets. Constructing the new swings and climbing equipment requires a lot of hands, and he says they have lost some of their volunteers due to the change in date for installation.

Individuals interested in volunteering on July 11 are asked to contact city hall at 712-464-3111. In January, the city council approved the approximately $40,000 project for Goins and Lincoln Parks after an inspector determined the equipment was not longer able to be repaired and had become a potential safety issue.
