Three Suffer Serious Injuries After Hit By Suspect Fleeing From Authorities Monday Night

A high-speed chase ended with a collision on Highway 30 in Carroll on Monday evening. Carroll Police Chief, Brad Burke, reports the communications center received two calls about the subject, beginning at approximately 7:10 p.m. The first report was that a male was standing beside a 2008 Jeep Liberty on the side of the road in the 3000 block of Highway 30. He was seen attempting to wave down passing motorists. The second call came in about five minutes later, saying the same vehicle was seen driving westbound on 30 near Phoenix Avenue at a very high rate of speed. As officers were approaching the 800 block of Highway 30 from the east, the Jeep passed law enforcement, continuing westbound and failing to yield to their demands for him to pull over. The Jeep continued to speed through town, traveling in all lanes of traffic between West and Crawford Streets, where it then struck a minivan head-on while traveling in the wrong lane. The Jeep rolled onto its top in the travel portion of the highway following the collision. The minivan came to rest in the westbound lane. All lanes of travel were blocked at the Crawford Street intersection. Three passengers in the minivan were transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for suspected serious, but non-life threatening injuries. One of them had to be extricated through mechanical means by the Carroll Fire Department. The driver of the Jeep was detained and also transported for treatment of suspected minor injuries. The names of those involved and charges resulting from the incident are expected to be released yet today (Tuesday). The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
