Iowans Encouraged To Take Advantage Of Free Fishing Weekend With Introductory Clinics, Including At Several Nearby Lakes

As summer break draws nearer, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reminding Iowans they can pick up a new hobby and fish without a license during the annual free fishing weekend next month. Beginning on Friday, June 7, licensing restrictions will be lifted through the weekend. Joe Larscheied, chief of the Iowa DNR’s Fisheries Bureau, encourages everyone to take advantage of this opportunity, saying, “Grab your family and your poles, hook a memory, and don’t let go. The memories are always bigger than the fish.” Iowa has hundreds of lakes, thousands of miles of rivers and countless ponds for novice and expert anglers to enjoy. The DNR has even compiled a list of stocked waterways that are easily accessible in parks and along trails, a link to which has been included with this story on our website. Hands-on fishing clinics will also be offered throughout the state to families new to angling, including at Black Hawk Lake in Lake View on Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Crawford Creek Recreation Area near Battle Creek. A link to the full list of fishing clinics is also included with this story online.
