Formal charges have been filed in District Court for Carroll County against a Carroll man who led law enforcement on a brief chase earlier this month. Prosecutors submitted trial information on Monday against 18-year-old Andrew William Charles Peterson, which brings one count of eluding or attempting to elude, an aggravated misdemeanor, against him. The charge stems from an incident on May 1 in Carroll. At approximately 12:42 a.m., an officer with the Carroll Police Department witnessed Peterson accelerate up to nearly 85 mph while traveling westbound through town in a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. Peterson failed to yield to the officer’s emergency lights, eventually traveling through Maple River before stopping east of town on a gravel portion of Main Street. His arraignment hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 23 at the Carroll County Courthouse. Eluding carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and up to $6,250 in fines.
