Sac City Officials Schedule Special Meeting Tuesday To Consider Decorative Lights In South Park

Officials in Sac City are holding a special meeting this week and only a single item of business is on the agenda. The city council will convene to consider the installation of new lights in South Park. Administrator, Jamie Lawrence, says they would normally take care of items like this during their regularly scheduled meetings, but an approaching deadline made the extra meeting necessary.

According to Lawrence, the new lights are part of an ongoing effort to enhance the community that began when John Criss, a Sac City businessman, left nearly $6 million in a trust for beautification efforts. Lawrence says the lights are primarily decorative and will be installed near the park’s shelter house, which was funded through the Criss Trust.

Lawrence is unaware of any opposition to the new lights, and that is not surprising, considering the project is not being financed with taxpayer dollars. If approved at Tuesday’s meeting, work would begin as soon as a contract is available. The council convenes at 7 a.m. in the Sac City Community Center on April 30. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
