The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office has been forced to say goodbye to one of their most notable members as they announced the death of Axel, their K-9 unit. On Friday evening, the department posted a notice that while off duty, Axel was struck by a passing vehicle and died from injuries sustained in that accident. Axel had been a member of the force for the past four years and assisted his handler, Deputy Nathan Tibbets, with many drug arrests. He truly will be missed.
