New Jersey Senator and Democratic Presidential Candidate, Cory Booker, visited Carroll today (Tuesday) only a few days after officially announcing the launch of his “Justice for All” campaign tour. Carroll County Democratic Party Chair, Peter Leo, introduced him to a crowd of about 50 potential voters at the Carrollton Centre by recalling a tweet Booker had sent while serving as mayor of New Jersey’s largest city.
Moments after taking the microphone, Booker was interrupted by Randall Terry, a pro-life activist. Terry was escorted from the room by law enforcement after a brief verbal exchange between the crowd and him. Booker laughed off the interruption and continued his speech. He told the crowd that he may be from New Jersey but his roots run through Iowa.
Booker said Iowa’s history on social justice issues falls in line with his vision for the country’s future.
Booker told the crowd our current political climate is untenable. It should not be the “us versus them” mentality often seen in Washington, D.C. He said Americans need to learn to work together again.
While in Carroll Tuesday, Booker laid out his plans for several of the hotly debated issues facing our country, including the high price of healthcare, the border with Mexico and changes to tax credits. Carroll Broadcasting will bring more from Booker on these topics in upcoming broadcasts. Full video from his visit can be found included with this story on our website.
