Authorities believe speed played a factor in a fatal accident that occurred in Buena Vista County Monday evening. At approximately 6:08 p.m., the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene about a mile north of Alta, near the intersection of M-31 and 570th Street. An initial investigation showed a 2008 Suzuki GSXR, operated by 29-year-old Lien Tejeda Lores of Storm Lake, was traveling northbound on M-31 at a high rate of speed and struck an anhydrous tank, which was being towed by 67-year-old Norman O’Bannon of Alta. The collision caused Lores to fall from his motorcycle and enter the east ditch, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. O’Bannon did not report any physical injuries. An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Buena Vista County Emergency Medical Services and the Alta Fire Department and First Responders assisted at the scene.
