CCSD Board Of Education Announces Finalists In Their Search For New Superintendent

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education announced today (Tuesday) the finalists in their search for a new superintendent. Seven of the original 22 applicants were interviewed last night (Monday) in closed session, and Board President, Jen Munson, says they were fortunate to have a pool of highly qualified candidates from which to choose.

The finalists are Marty Fonley, Dr. Casey Berlau and Alan Miller. Fonley currently serves as Carroll’s interim superintendent and has more than a decade of administration experience in Algona with a background in teaching, curriculum development and coaching. Dr. Berlau is the shared superintendent at the Nodaway Valley and CAM School Districts. Prior to working there, he was superintendent at Elk Horn-Kimballton with a history of successful technology integration and fiscal management. Miller is superintendent at the Murray Community School District. In his ten years there, Miller also served as a technology coordinator, high school and elementary principal and special education coordinator. Last year, the board completed a survey, which identified community involvement, a willingness to communicate and availability to staff and stakeholders as the desired qualities for the district’s lead administrator. Munson says they used similar criteria to select the finalists, with the added requirement of prior superintendent experience.

The last stage in their search is finalist interviews, which will take place on Thursday, April 18.

The board’s full statement on the finalists can be found included with this story on our website. The district has been without a full-time superintendent since the resignation of Dr. Kevin Lein on Feb. 8, following a series of closed superintendent evaluations.
