Lance Wilhelm, a middle school English language arts instructor at East Sac County (ESC) schools, has been named the Carroll Broadcasting 2019 Inspirational Teacher of the Year. He returned to teaching in Sac City only a few years ago but has made a huge impact on nearly all of his students in that brief time. Numerous nominations listed Wilhelm as deserving of the recognition, and many described him as the most caring, supportive and involved teacher they had ever encountered. Wilhelm says it is an honor to even be considered for the award, especially from the people he lives and works with every day.
Wilhelm is known for how engaged he is with his students and their families, be it inside or outside the classroom.
Wilhelm notes being a teacher is about more than time spent in the classroom. That is why he makes every effort to be at as many ball games, sporting events, and school events as he can. He says they offer a great opportunity to form an extra connection with students and their families.
