Firefighting crews from Carroll and two other communities responded to a house fire at around 6 p.m. Monday night, just a couple miles south of the Country Club on Olympic Avenue. Carroll Fire Chief, Greg Schreck, says when they arrived at the property owned by Arlo Bueltel at 22016 Olympic Avenue, the entire attached two-car garage was already engulfed in flames.
For a brief time, while battling the blaze, Schreck says they considered bringing in even more help.
Schreck says they were fighting a defensive battle from the get go, with a tremendous amount of fire coming out of the garage and catching hold in part of the house. Firefighters needed to gain access to the roof area while fighting this fire.
Bueltel was home and spotted the flames, calling in the report. No injuries were sustained by residents or firefighters. The cause has not yet been determined, but Schreck says there is no doubt it originated in the garage. Crews were on scene for a little over three hours Monday night watching for flare ups and hotspots. Schreck says he will be returning to the site today (Tuesday) to continue the investigation into the cause of this fire.
