Former Kuemper Theology Instructor Accused Of Felony Sexual Misconduct Reaches Plea Agreement

A former Kuemper theology instructor, who is accused of sexual misconduct with a student, has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to Carroll County District Court records, 23-year-old Shawn William Vaske was originally charged with four counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee, a class D felony, following an investigation in December by the Carroll Police Department that determined Vaske had maintained a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old female student from December 2017 to June 2018 while teaching at the school. In court documents filed today (Wednesday), Vaske agreed to enter a guilty plea to a single felony count, and the remaining charges will be dismissed after sentencing. A class D felony carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and up to $7,500 in fines, but the agreement does not indicate what sentence Vaske might receive. A date for the sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.
