Carroll Chamber Of Commerce Teams Up With Holy Spirit Elementary For Market Day

Second graders at Holy Spirit Elementary School were introduced to the business world Friday with some help from the Carroll Chamber of Commerce. For the past few years, the two organizations have teamed up to offer students a unique learning experience by having the kids create their own business and then market their products. K-8 Principal, Ted Garringer, says it is a great opportunity to teach students about the real world in an exciting way.

Katelin Larsen, a student in Mrs. Wunschel’s classroom, named her company “Katelin’s Magnificent Magnets.” According to her, business was booming right away. She explains the work that went in to making her products.

Executive Director, Shannon Landauer, spoke to the second graders about the Chamber of Commerce and presented the young business owners with a certificate that made them honorary members. Prior to opening up their shops, each classroom hosted a ribbon cutting. Landauer says she hopes this is not the first time she congratulates the kids on opening a business.

Third graders, who participated in Market Day last year, acted as customers during the event. Photos of the students can be found included below this story.
