The Carroll Chamber of Commerce recognizes an organization every year for their dedication to serving the community and its residents with the Public Service Award. The award was created to give credit to individuals who go above and beyond the call in their public duties, and strive to make Carroll a better place to live. Kathy Steffes, branch manager at Dupaco Community Credit Union, introduced this year’s winner, Animal Rescue of Carroll. Steffes said the many individuals who give of their time, effort and money to care for some of Carroll’s most vulnerable residents have worked tirelessly to better the lives of dogs and cats in need.
Animal Rescue of Carroll officially became a non-profit in 2009, but its roots date back to 2006. At that time, the organization had no building to call home and continued solely through the determination of its many volunteers. In the fall of 2016, they celebrated the opening of a permanent facility in Carroll. Steffes said these men and women should be proud of what they have accomplished over the last decade.
Board of Directors President, Dave Bruner, accepted the award on behalf of the organization. He said they planned from the beginning to become an integral part of the community and encouraged people to visit the shelter.
