Dr. Kevin Lein, superintendent for the Carroll Community School District (CCSD), will be stepping down from his position as the district’s lead administrator. At a special meeting Friday night, the Board of Education voted unanimously to accept a letter of resignation from Lein. This announcement follows a series of three superintendent evaluations held since Jan. 2; the most recent occurring on Wednesday night. Board President, Jen Munson, read a statement regarding Lein leaving.
Munson declined to provide any additional details on the reasons behind the resignation and says the board cannot comment on personnel matters. Lein spent a little over seven months as superintendent before tendering his notice. He was hired in March of last year and officially took over as superintendent on July 1, 2018. Superintendent contracts are issued for three-year terms, with the first year serving as a probationary period. Glenn Babb, a Carroll resident, asked Munson for clarification on how Lein’s pay would be handled during his leave of absence.
As it stands, Lein will receive the remainder of his $155,000 benefit package. It is unclear at this time who will serve as superintendent in the interim. The board indicated it will likely utilize the local Area Education Agency (AEA) to provide temporary administrative leadership. They will begin searching for a replacement as soon as possible and hope to have a new superintendent selected before the start of the next fiscal year on July 1, 2019. Lein was not in attendance for the meeting. However, he did thank the entire community for the brief opportunity in a written statement.
