Probably one of the most moving awards the Chamber of Commerce presents at their annual banquet is one that shines a spotlight on those who are behind the scenes, doing the truly good work in the community. The emcee at Monday night’s banquet, Mike Franey, says the Humanitarian award is presented for life-long commitment to the well-being of Carroll’s human needs, something that can be difficult to quantify.
Ann Wilson, of the Daily Times Herald, read the nomination letter that brought this person’s good works to light.
She also contributes time and physical items to a local long-term care facility and much more. This person truly gives of her time, talents and treasures, but that was just the tip of the iceberg.
The honoree, Sara Anderson, is also president of the Bill Evans Fund, which continues what this teacher and coach at Carroll Community Schools did to support the self-esteem of children. These funds are used to provide items and different means of support. Anderson does all of this quietly, without drawing attention to the child in need, simply changing their lives through these acts of kindness. Anderson received a standing ovation when her name was announced as the winner of this award, but there was little she was able to say in response to the surprise, except for a heartfelt thank you. A live interview with Sara Anderson, along with several other winners from Monday’s banquet, can be found by logging on to our website at www.carrollbroadcasting.com. And tune in to 1380 AM and 95.1 FM, KCIM, during the 8 a.m. news hour to hear more from Monday night’s honorees.
