A Lake View man was taken into custody over the weekend after fleeing from law enforcement Friday night. At approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, a deputy with the Sac County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2016 Chevrolet Trailblazer on 340th Street near Wall Lake for an expired license plate. The vehicle’s driver failed to pull over and fled, reaching speeds of over 90 mph. The patrol car was disabled during the chase, and the suspect was able to temporarily avoid arrest. On Saturday evening, deputies traveled to the home of the registered owner in Lake View and made contact with 41-year-old Eugene Frederick Wunschel Jr. He admitted to authorities that he was the vehicle’s driver and failed to stop because he did not possess a license. Wunschel was taken into custody and charged with eluding and driving while barred, both serious misdemeanors.
