Insurance, Budgets And Fundraisers All On The Agenda For Next CCSD Board Of Education Meeting

The next meeting of the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education is scheduled for next week, and budgets, insurance and fundraisers all make an appearance on the agenda. Each month, the district’s principals submit a report from each building, which recaps the professional development, student achievement and upcoming events. Following those reports, the board will discuss a proposed fundraiser. Tiger Trot was suggested by the CHS Foundation. Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Lein, says the foundation is looking to expand their impact within the schools.

Additional details about the event will be released in the future. The deadline to publish the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 certified budget is a little more than two months away, and Business Manager, Gary Bengtson and Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Lein, will present a timeline for when work will take place. Last year, CCSD published a certified budget with approximately $27 million in revenues and $29.5 million in allowable expenditures. The board plans to host a work session in the coming weeks, and Lein says the 2.3 percent increase to Supplemental State Aid (SSA) should leave them in a relatively good position.

Another major topic for the meeting will be equipment breakdown insurance. The board has been using it since 2017 and has been on the fence regarding its benefit. Lein says he has mixed feelings about it, also.

Lein notes that the board has the final say on whether they will renew the policy. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 at the Adams Elementary School. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
