Kuemper Students Begin Long Journey To D.C. To Join 46th Annual March For Life

More than 40 Kuemper Catholic High School students and chaperones boarded a bus this (Wednesday) afternoon to begin the long road trip to Washington, D.C. for the 2019 March for Life. Since 1974, demonstrators have traveled to our nation’s capital each January to voice their opposition to the practice of abortion. Senior, Stone Smith, will be participating in his third march and says their message is simple.

Students will spend approximately 22-hours on the bus on the way to their destination. The March for Life takes place on Friday, Jan. 18, so they will have a few days to explore D.C. Another student, Ambrea Schreck, is also making her third trip to the event. She says the meaning behind the march is somber, but they also get to enjoy the city during their free time.

Campus Minister, Katherine Dea, is one of the chaperones for the trip and has participated in the event more than a half-dozen times. She says the students aren’t just talking the talk on this trip, they are walking the walk by donating care packages for mothers who chose to follow through with their pregnancies.

This year marks the 46th annual March for Life. On the day of the event, students are also invited to attend a reception hosted by Senators, Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, and 4th District Representative, Steve King, for fellow Iowans who are participating in the march.
