Officials in Lake View are reexamining the way they dispose of brush and yard waste, after concerns from the public were brought to their attention at a recent city council meeting. Time is set aside at each meeting for residents to discuss issues that are important to them, and according to Administrator, Scott Peterson, several citizens had issues with smoke created when they city burns the brush pile on High Street.
He notes they had already started looking into other methods prior to the complaints. Peterson says the council is exploring onsite chipping as an alternative, but they would like more information before moving forward.
Because the issue was brought up during the public forum and did not appear on the published agenda, the council was unable to take any formal action. Peterson says that should not be a problem, as the city generally does not perform burns during the winter months.
The council will continue to gather more information about ending the practice of burning the brush pile and intends to bring the topic back up for discussion at a future meeting.
