A former Kuemper Catholic theology instructor arrested for sexual misconduct with a student now faces multiple felony counts in District Court for Carroll County. According to trial information filed Thursday, 23-year-old Shawn William Vaske has been charged with four counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee, a class D felony. Vaske was arrested Dec. 19, following a five-day investigation by the Carroll Police Department into an alleged sexual relationship with an 18-year-old female student during the 2017-18 school year. A criminal complaint filed by law enforcement accuses Vaske of scheming to engage with the student outside of school hours. He allegedly communicated with her via Facebook, Snapchat and cell phones and allowed her into his residence on multiple occasions. An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty on all four counts , Vaske faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and $30,000 in fines.
