The Carroll Police Department reports they responded to five motor vehicle accidents in the days leading up to the Christmas holiday. According to authorities, the first accident occurred in the 100 block of East 18th Street on Friday, Dec. 21. At approximately 9:48 p.m., a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 30-year-old Maureen Beck of Carroll, collided with a legally parked 2010 Ford F150. The Jeep experienced significant damage but was driven from the scene. About 30 minutes later, officers responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Griffith Street. Sixteen-year-old Samuel Steinkamp of Carroll was traveling eastbound in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix and was stopped for a red light. At the same time, an eastbound 1997 Ford Taurus, driven by 27-year-old Charles McNeeley of Carroll, failed to stop for the red light, striking the Steinkamp vehicle. McNeeley was cited for failure to maintain control. On Saturday, Dec. 22, law enforcement responded to another two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Clark and 1st Streets. At approximately 5:35 p.m., 30-year-old Todd Hackfort of Carroll, operating a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, was stopped for a stop sign at the intersection and was struck from behind by a 2017 Toyota Rav4, driven by 71-year-old Leslie Duff. No injuries and only minor damages were reported. Authorities also responded to the 1300 block of East Highway 30 on Saturday at approximately 11:32 p.m. Seventeen-year-old Joanna Meaike, of Audubon, was traveling westbound in a 2015 Chevrolet Impala on Highway 30 and was struck by a westbound 2007 Honda CRV, driven by 24-year-old Tanner Gotto of Sioux Rapids, while it attempted to change lanes. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were driven from the scene. The final accident leading up to Christmas occurred at approximately 9:58 p.m. in the 100 block of East 10th Street on Sunday, Dec. 23. The Carroll Police Department reports 39-year-old Nathan Fitzsenry, of Carroll, struck an an apartment building, knocking out power to the facility. No injuries and only minor damage to Fitzsenry’s vehicle was reported. He was taken into custody and charged with first-offense operating while intoxicated.
