Kuemper Theology Instructor Arrested On Allegations Of Felony Sexual Misconduct With Student During 2017-18 School Year

A Kuemper Catholic High School (KHS) theology instructor was taken into custody today (Wednesday) on allegations of felony sexual misconduct. According to a criminal complaint filed by the Carroll Police Department, 23-year-old Shawn William Vaske, of Carroll, was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee, a class D felony. Authorities initiated an investigation after receiving a report from the school on Friday, Dec. 14. Through that investigation, law enforcement determined Vaske maintained a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old female student between the approximate dates of December of 2017 into June of 2018. Authorities allege he schemed to engage with the student outside of school hours and communicated via Facebook, Snapchat and cell phones. Vaske taught theology during the 2017-18 school year and is accused of having sex with the student multiple times at his residence. He was booked into the Carroll County jail and held on a $5,000 cash bond. If found guilty of the charge, Vaske faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
