A Lake City service group is hoping to expand their efforts to make their town a better place to live. In the past, the Transforming Our Community board has hosted food drives, adopted families for Christmas and cleaned up highways, but now they want to lend a hand to individuals who may need some assistance around their home. The group consists of four primary members: Lake City Mayor, Tyler Holm; Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) President and CEO, Cindy Carstens; SMCH Social Worker, Linda Luhring; and SMCH Chief People Officer, Holly Espenhover. They are now in the planning stages of their next service project, which will have them supplying labor, equipment and supplies to address the needs of residents who might need an extra hand around their homes. The city council voted earlier this week to include the group on the city’s liability insurance at no extra cost to taxpayers. Carstens says this has provided them a path to move forward, and they hope to have their first community-wide service day in the spring of 2019. Once they have gotten the project on its feet, their goal is to make it a biannual event.
