The Iowa Attorney General’s Office has filed a lawsuit against a Davenport resident, which claims he defrauded small businesses across the country. The civil lawsuit was filed earlier this week in Polk County District Court against three individuals: Alphonso Barnum, his wife, LaFayia Kay Barnum; and his mother; Willie Nance. The state also named three limited liability corporations: City Wide Promotions, Top Faith Solutions and New Start Media. According to the Attorney General’s Office, the Barnum’s companies promised to make up to 5,000 promotional items, such as posters featuring high school sports teams, and disseminate them throughout the community to households and businesses. Officials allege they also falsely claimed to be working with the schools to distribute the items. Investigations have shown that consumers in multiple states have complained about the businesses’ practices.
