Only minor injuries were sustained in a two-vehicle accident in Sac County on Friday afternoon. The Sac County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene just west of the curve near Auburn, at the intersection of 370th Street and Union Avenue. They found that a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 17-year-old Garret David Bruce of Sac City, was northbound on Union Avenue. Bruce had stopped for the posted sign at the intersection, but mistakenly believed it was a four-way stop. He entered the intersection and struck the passenger side of an eastbound 2017 GMC Yukon, driven by 80-year-old James Merle Quirk of Lake View. The SUV entered the south ditch, struck a traffic sign and rolled, coming to a stop on the driver’s side. Quirk and his passenger, 73-year-old Victoria Anna Quirk, also of Lake View, sustained minor injuries, but declined ambulance transport. Neither Bruce nor his passenger were injured in the accident. There was an estimated $5,000 in damage to the Bruce Malibu and $20,000 to the Yukon. Bruce was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
