CCSD Board Of Education Unanimously Approves New Vision And Mission Statements

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education formally approved the adoption of new vision and mission statements at last night’s (Monday) meeting., For years, the district’s vision statement has been “Improving student achievement—Step by Step,” and the mission statement was “Opening the doors of learning for success.” On a vote of four to zero, the board opted to change their vision statement to “A meaningful diploma for every student.” Board member, Duane Horsley, says they feel confident that the new statement does a good job of capturing the board’s goal for each and every student.

He adds a meaningful diploma can be difficult to measure, and that is where the new mission statement comes in, which reads, “Carroll Community School District students will be completely engaged every moment, in search of fully realizing potential of every skill necessary, for every possible future pursued.” Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Lein, says this means they will need to consistently measure how engaged students are in the classroom in order to reach their mission.

Along with the updated statements, the board also outlined their plan to accomplish this by treating every student as an individual with unique needs and by redesigning systems to allow staff and students to cultivate potential. Lein says the end goal is to really make graduating Tigers stand out.

The tentative plan is to roll out the statements in waves, the first being with staff members on Wednesday. High school students will then be introduced during an assembly on Thursday, and then on Friday, the district’s new website will be unveiled. The public is also invited to two community forums at the high school to discuss the changes more in depth with administrators.
