SCC Football Player Recognized During State Championships

A local athlete was one of six to be recognized during the Iowa High School state football championships in Cedar Falls late last week. The Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) selected the young men for the Student Athlete Achievement Scholarship based on their academic performance, athletic participation, leadership skills and community involvement. Chase McAlister, of Rockwell City and a South Central Calhoun Titan, will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the IBA to be used at the college of his choice. “This program recognizes Iowa students for their achievements, both on and off the field,” says John Sorenson, president and CEO of the IBA. “The Iowa Bankers Association is proud to make this investment in the future of these student athletes. Our hope is they will make a similar commitment to their home community and our great state.” Since it originated over 20 years ago, the scholarship program has awarded more than $250,000 to athletes in football, basketball and wrestling programs.
